Free Church services were provided for residents in Towie and Leochel-Cushnie from November 1843, under the charges of neighbouring ministers in the Presbytery of Alford. Towie was associated with Glenbuchat Frree Church and Leochel-Cushnie with Lumphanan. A church and manse were erected in Towie in the early 1850's. The double charge of Towie and Cushnie was sanctioned in 1856. The church became Towie and Cushnie United Free Church in 1900 following the union of the Free Church with the United Presbyterian Church. In 1917 the charge was united with Strathdon and Glenbuchat to form Towie, Strathdon and Glenbuchat. In 1929 the United Free Church united with the Church of Scotland. The charge became Towie East Church of Scotland. In 1929 the congregation was linked with Lynturk under a missionary. Towie East was united with Towie West Church of Scotland in 1930 and the West buildings were retained. In 1956 Towie was united with Glenbuchat Church under the name Glenbuchat-Towie Church of Scotland. |
