At the Disruption in 1843 William Buchan, minister of St John's in Hamilton, and his congregation, adhered to the Free Church. A church was erected by subscription shortly after and a manse built in 1872, which was sold to the North British Railway Company in 1880 and replaced in 1884. In 1900 the Free Church united with the United Presbyterian Church to form the United Free Church. A new manse was purchased in 1921. Following the union of the United Free Church with the Church of Scotland in 1900 the church became Hamilton St John's Church of Scotland. A new hall was opened the old halls renovated in 1937 and the church was redecorated in 1949. |
