Baillieston Free Church in the Presbytery of Hamilton was the first congregation established by the Miners' Mission of the Free Church in 1873. In 1874 an iron church was opened. The charge was sanctioned in 1875. In 1882 a new church was erected and opened with money donated by Mrs Mure Macredie of Perceton in memory of her husband and two sons. The church was thereafter known as Baillieston Mure Memorial Free Church. In 1900 the Free Church and the United Presbyterian Church united to form the United Free Church. In 1929 following union with the Church of Scotland the congregation became Baillieston Mure Memorial Church of Scotland. In 1940 the church was transported to a church extension at Beech Avenue, Garrowhill. |
