Forres General Associate (Antiburgher) Session was established in Forres, in 1768. The Antiburgher Presbytery of Elgin and Inverness was formed in 1770. In 1812 a new church was built. In 1820 following the union of the Associate Synod and the General Associate Synod and the formation of the United Secession Church, the charge became Forres United Secession Church. In 1847 the United Secession Church joined the Relief Church to form the United Presbyterian Church. A new church was erected in 1871. In 1900 following the union of the United Presbtyterian Church with the Free Church and the establishment of the United Free Church, the congregation became Forres Castlehill United Free Church. In 1929 the United Free Church joined the Church of Scotland and the church became Forres Castlehill Church of Scotland. In 1972 the church was united with Forres High as Forres St Leonards, Presbytery of Elgin. In 1987 the congregation was linked with Dallas and Rufford churches, in the Presbytery of Moray. |
