Borgue Free Church in the Presbytery of Kirkcudbright was established at the Disruption in 1843 when the minister and approximately a third of his congregation seceded from the Church of Scotland. Initially, the congregation used Shank Barn as a place of worship. A church and manse were erected by 1845. Both of which were renovated in 1900. In 1900 the Free Church united with the United Presbyterian Church and the congregation became Borgue United Free Church. In 1929 the United Free Church joined the Church of Scotland and the congregation became Borgue St John's Church of Scotland in the Presbytery of Kirkcudbright. On 14 December 1933 the charge was united with Borgue High Church of Scotland. Subsequent to the union, Borgue St John's manse was sold in 1938. The charge was linked with Tongland with Twynholm from 1977 until 1988. On 22 March Borgue Church of Scotland was linked with Anworth and Girthon congregation, also in the Presbytery of Dumfries and Kirkcudbright. From 1977-1988 the charge was linked with Tongland and Twynholm. In 1990 the church was linked with Anworth and Girthon Church of Scotland. |
