Pleasance Free Church in the Presbytery of Edinburgh, originated as a mission established in 1852 by Edinburgh: St John's. The church was built and opened in 1859. In the same year the charge was sanctioned and the missionary, Thomas Cochrane, was ordained. In 1865 a manse was purchased and in a larger church in Richmond Place was bought in 1873. In 1900 the Free Church united with the United Presbyterian Church to form the United Free Church. In 1910 Pleasance United Free Church was united with College Street and Cowgate churches to form Union United Free Church. |
