Longside Free Church, Presbytery of Deer, was formed at the Disruption in 1843. Initially services were held in a disused inn and a church was erected in 1845 in which year the charge was sanctioned. A manse was built in 1849. In 1900 the Free Church united with the United Presbyterian Church to form the United Free Church. Consequently this congregation became Longside United Free Church. In 1929 the United Free Church joined with the Church of Scotland and the church became Longside West Church of Scotland. In 1950 the charge was united with Longside Old Church as Longside Church. The united congregation continued to use the Longside Old Church buildings and the Longside West church, hall and manse were sold. In 1970 the charge was united with Blackhill Church under the name of Longside. |
