Langbank United Presbyterian Church, in the Presbytery of Paisley, originated as a preaching station established in 1866. On 17 April 1866 a congregation was formed. The first minister was James Mather, who was ordained on 26 March 1867. A new church was opened in May 1867 and a manse erected subsequently. Langbank United Free Church was formed in 1900 following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church. The church building was altered and renovated in 1900-1902. In 1926 the steeple was blown down and fell through the roof. The church was consequently restored and reopened on 9 February 1927. In 1929 the United Free Church reunited with the Church of Scotland and this charge became Langbank West. In 1932 the congregation was joined with Langbank East as Langbank Church retaining the East church and halls. |
