In November 1775 the Queensferry Associate Congregation (Burgher) was formed by a group of people from the parishes of Kirkliston, Dalmeny, Queensferry and Abercorn which petitioned the Burgher Presbytery of Edinburgh for sermon. A minister, Dr William Robertson, was supplied and a house in Queensferry acquired for a place of worship. A church was built by subscription and opened in September 1776. The first minister, Andrew Dick (d 1785), was inducted to the charge on 23 September 1779. A manse was erected in 1789. In 1820 the Associate (Burgher) Synod and the General Associate (Anti-Burgher) Synod were united in the United Secession Church. In 1847 following the union of the United Secession Church with the Relief Church the charge became Queensferry United Presbyterian Church. A new manse was erected in 1889 and a new church building opened in 1894. In 1900, following the union of the United Presbyterian Church with the Free Church, the congregation became South Queensferry United Free Church. In 1929 the United Free Church rejoined the Church of Scotland, and this congregation became South Queensferry St Andrew's Church of Scotland. In 1956 the charge was united with Queensferry Old as Queensferry Church of Scotland. |
