In 1840 a number of Evangelicals left the Church in Strathbogie and formed the Strathbogie New Church. At the Disruption in 1843, this congregation became Huntly Free Church in the Presbytery of Strathbogie. A manse was built in 1852. A church hall was subsequently added and in 1871 a mission church was built at Kinnoir. In 1900 the Free Church joined with the United Presbyterian Church to form the United Free Church. In 1917 the charge was merged with Huntly Princes Street United Free to form Huntly United Free Church. The minister of Huntly Strathbogie, Archibald Scott Laidlaw (d 1943), was retained as minister of the united congregation. In 1929 following the union of the United Free Church with the Church of Scotland, this charge became Huntly Strathbogie Church of Scotland. |
