In 1843, at the time of the Disruption, the minister and many of the congregation of the parish of Craig adhered to the Free Church, and soon after work commenced on the erection of a church to house the newly established congregation of Craig Free Church. In 1844 however a dispute arose over the title of the land upon which the church had been constructed and consequently it had to be moved to an alternative site. In addition to the church building there were two mission halls established in Ferryden village. In 1900, at the time of the union between the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Craig Free Church became Craig United Free and following the 1929 union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Craig United Free was renamed Ferryden Church of Scotland. In 1971 Ferryden united with the charge of Craig and Maryton, under the name of Inchbrayock. Craig Free Church and United Free sat within the Presbytery of Brechin and later of Brechin and Fordoun. |
