The congregation at Buchlyvie was originally part of the Holm of Balfron Church. In 1750 the decision was taken to open a separate church to be a member of the Associate Synod (Antiburgher), later General Associate Synod. The first minister arrived in 1752 and a church opened in the same year in the Presbytery of Stirling. In 1820 Buchlyvie joined the United Secession Church along with the other Associate churches and in 1867 the church became part of the United Presbyterian Church. By the end of the 19th century the size of the congregation had reduced considerably, and a union was agreed with Buchlyvie Free Church in 1899. In 1929 when the charge passed back to the Established Church it was renamed Buchlyvie North Church of Scotland. Shortly afterwards, in 1931, the congregation united with that of Buchlyvie South as Buchlyvie. |
