The congregation of Aberlemno Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Forfar, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption. Regular Service was held within temporary accommodation until 1847 when a church was erected to house the congregation. The charge was later sanctioned in 1856 and in 1900, at the time of the union of the United Presbyterians and the Free Church, Aberlermo Free Church became Aberlemno United Free church. The congregation however was soon to suffered the effects of the failure of the weaving and quarrying industries in the area, and as a consequence the charge was reduced to a station in 1917 and dissolved a number of years thereafter in 1924. |
