In 1843, at the time of the Disruption, the minister of Kilmorack Parish Church did not adhere to the Free Church however the people of the parish did and consequently a Free Church preaching station was set up for them. The first place of worship of Kilmorack Free Church was built at Balblain and this was later replaced in 1879 by a new church built at Beauly. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland in 1900, Kilmorack Free Church became Kilmorack United Free Church, and upon the 1929 union between the United Free Church of Scotland and the Church of Scotland, Kilmorack United Free Church was renamed Kilmorack East Church of Scotland. In 1932 Kilmorack East was joined with the congregation of Kilmorack West, under the name of Kilmorack, and after this local union both churches continued in use until 1974 when the former West church was closed. Further union followed in 1979 with Erchless to form the charge of Kilmorack and Erchless Church of Scotland, and this united congregation sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Inverness. |
