In June 1843, the year of the Disruption, adherents of the Free Church residing within Lochmaben were formed into a congregation and in December of that same year the church of Lochmaben Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Lockerbie, was opened. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland in 1900, Lochmaben Free Church was renamed Lochmaben Victoria United Free Church and in 1920 a union was established with the congregation of Lochmaben Barras and Kirkmichael, under the name of Lochmaben Kirkmichael United Free Church of Scotland. Upon the 1929 union between the United Free Church of Scotland and the Free Church of Scotland, Lochmaben Kirkmichael was renamed Lochmaben St Margaret's Church of Scotland and in 1955 Lochmaben St Margaret's united with Lochmaben St Magdalene's, under the name of Lochmaben Church of Scotland. In 1980 Lochmaben was linked with the charge of Applegarth and Sibbaldie and the linked congregation is under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Annandale and Eskdale. |
