Inveraray Free Church, which sat within the Free Presbytery of Inveraray, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption and the church of the congregation was built in the following year. The first church building was superceded in 1896 when a new church was erected. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Church of Scotland, Inveraray Free Church became Inveraray United Free Church and upon the 1929 union between the United Free Church of Scotland and the Church of Scotland, Inveraray United Free became Inveraray Church of Scotland. In 1930 the former United Free Church congregation was joined with the Parish Church of Inveraray, under the name of Glenaray and Inveraray. After this local union the former United Free Church continued for a time as a church hall. The united congregation of Glenaray and Inveraray sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of South Argyll. |
