In 1786 the Burgher Presbytery of Kelso received a petition from a number of people living in and around Yetholm, requesting that they be provided with sermon. Accordingly a temporary preacher was appointed to Yetholm and work began on the building of a church to house the new Burgher congregation. Robert Shirra, the first minister of Yetholm Burgher Church was ordained in August 1787 however in 1799 Mr Shirra, along with his congregation, acceded to the Original Burgher Presbytery in 1799 and from this time formed the congregation of Yetholm Original Burgher Church. |
