The congregation of Duns Boston Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Duns and Chirnside, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption when the minister and the entire congregation of Boston quoad sacra Church adhered to the Free Church. The congregation maintained possession of their church which had been erected in 1839. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland in 1929, Duns Boston Free Church became Duns Boston United Free Church and upon the 1929 union between the United Free Church of Scotland and the Church of Scotland, the congregation became Duns Boston Church of Scotland. In 1953 Duns Boston Church of Scotland was united with the congregation of Duns Old under the name of Duns Old and Boston and after this local union the former Boston church and manse were sold. Further union followed in 1976 with the congregation of Duns South to form the charge of Duns Church of Scotland and this united congregation sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Duns. |
