The congregation of Blackburn Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Aberdeen, was established immediately after the Disruption of 1843. A site was secured upon which the walls of an old distillery still stood and these were utilised during the building of Blackburn Free Church. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland in 1900, Blackburn Free Church became Blackburn United Free Church and upon the 1929 union between the United Free Church of Scotland and the Church of Scotland, Blackburn United Free became Blackburn Church of Scotland. In 1932 Blackburn was joined with the congregation of Kinellar, under the name of Kinellar and Blackburn and in 1952, after considerable renovations, the church and manse of Blackburn were transferred to the General Trustees. Kinellar and Blackburn established a link in 1969 with the charge of Fintray and in 1993 the two charges were united under the name of Fintray and Kinellar. The united congregation sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Gordon. |
