At the Disruption of 1843 supply was arranged for both Inch and Cairnryan, but in 1844 Inch was sanctioned as a separate charge as Inch Free Church. When the Free Church united with the United Presbyterian Church in 1900, the congregation at Inch followed suit, becoming Inch United Free Church. When the United Free Church passed back to the Established Church in 1929, the congregation of Inch took the name of Inch Castle Kennedy Church of Scotland so as not to confuse it with the existing Church of Scotland charge already established in Inch. Only a few years later, however, in 1931 these two charges united, simply taking the name of Inch Church of Scotland. The former United Free Church building of Castle Kennedy was made into a church hall and worship took place in the original Inch building. |
