The congregation of Perth St Leonard's Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Perth, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption when John Milne, the minister of St Leonard's Church extension charge, and the majority of his congregation, adhered to the Free Church. They worshipped in the North Secession Church and the Original Secession Church until their own church was opened in October 1843. A new church was later erected in 1885 in Marshall Place. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland in 1900, Perth St Leonard's Free Church became Perth St Leonard's United Free Church and upon the 1929 union between the United Free Church of Scotland and the Church of Scotland, the congregation was renamed Perth St Leonard's-in-the-Fields. In 1982 Perth St Leonard's-in-the-Fields was united with the congregation of Perth Trinity, under the name of Perth St Leonard's-in-the-Fields and Trinity and the united congregation is under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Perth. |
