The congregation of Blantyre East Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Hamilton, was established in 1878 and the charge was sanctioned in 1889. Worship initially took place in a mission hall until the church was built in 1892. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland in 1900, Blantyre East Free Church became Blantyre East United Free Church and upon the 1929 union between the United Free Church of Scotland and the Church of Scotland, Blantyre East United Free Church became Blantyre East Church of Scotland. The name of the congregation was changed in 1943 to Blantyre Burleigh Memorial and in 1964 Blantyre Burleigh Memorial was united with Blantyre Stonefield, under the name of Blantyre Stonefield and Burleigh. Further union followed in 1976 with Blantyre Anderson to form the session of Blantyre St Andrew's. The congregation of Blantyre St Andrew's sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Hamilton. |
