The congregation of Braco Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Auchterarder, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption when the minister and the majority of the congregation of Ardoch quoad sacra parish church adhered to the Free Church. The congregation continued to worship in the parish until December 1843 when they were deprived use of the building. Their own church was opened in the following year. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland in 1929, Braco United Presbyterian became Braco United Free Church and in 1904 a union was established with the congregation of Greenloaning to form the charge of Braco and Greenloaning United Free. After this local union both churches remained in use. In 1929, the year of the union between the United Free Church of Scotland and the Church of Scotland, Braco and Greenloaning United Free joined with the congregation of Ardoch, to form part of the united charge of Ardoch Church of Scotland and in 1930 the former United Free church at Braco was demolished. In 1984 a link was established with the congregation of Blackford and the linked congregation sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Perth. |
