It is thought that the congregation of Boghole Associate Session (Antiburgher), which sat within the Presbytery of Elgin and Inverness, was in existence from 1748 and their first church was erected in 1753 and rebuilt in 1779. This church was superceded in 1847 by a new church erected at a new location, with sittings for 420. Additionally in 1847 Boghole Antiburgher Church became part of the United Presbyterian Church and was thereafter named Moyness United Presbyterian Church. Following the union between the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland in 1900, Moyness United Presbyterian became Moyness United Free Church and in 1928 Moyness United Free was linked with the Darnaway Mission. Upon the 1929 union between the United Free Church of Scotland and the Free Church of Scotland, Moyness United Free was renamed Moyness and Darnaway Church of Scotland. The Church of Scotland congregation of Moyness and Darnaway, which sat within the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Elgin, was later dissolved in 1949. |
