The congregation of Arbroath Ladyloan Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Arbroath, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption when the minister and a number of the congregation of Arbroath Ladyloan Parish church adhered to the Free Church. They continued to worship in their former church until 1845 when a new church was opened to house the charge. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland in 1900, Arbroath Ladyloan Free Church became Arbroath Ladyloan United Free Church and upon the 1929 union between the United Free Church of Scotland and the Church of Scotland, Arbroath Ladyloan United Free was renamed Arbroath Ladyloan High Church of Scotland. In 1941 Arbroath Ladyloan High was joined with the congregation of Arbroath Ladyloan QS, under the name of Arbroath Ladyloan Church of Scotland. After this local union the Ladyloan QS church was sold. Further union followed in 1973 with the congregation of Arbroath St Columba's to form the session of Arbroath Ladyloan St Columba's and in 1990 the congregation of Arbroath West Kirk was formed by the union of Ladyloan St Columba's and Arbroath St Margaret's. The congregation of Arbroath West Kirk sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Angus. |
