Cawdor Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Nairn, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption, when the minister of Cawdor parish church, and many of his congregation, adhered to the Free Church. No church was available to house the congregation during the first winter of this charge's existence and thus service initially had to take place out in the open air. In 1900, at the time of the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Cawdor Free Church became Cawdor United Free and following the 1929 union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Cawdor United Free was renamed Cawdor North, Church of Scotland. Cawdor North later united in 1945 with the congregation of Cawdor Old Parish. After this local union, under the name of Cawdor, the former United Free church and manse were sold. |
