The congregation of Kildalton and Oa Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Islay, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption when many residents of Port Ellen adhered to the Free Church. The church was built in 1845. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland, Kildalton and Oa Free Church became Kildalton and Oa United Free Church, and upon the 1929 union between the United Free Church of Scotland and the Church of Scotland, Kildalton and Oa was joined with the congregation of Port Ellen, under the name of Kildalton Church of Scotland. In 1962 Kildalton was linked with the congregation of Kilmeny however this arrangement was terminated on 14 March 1973 and on the same date the name of the charge was returned to that of Kildalton and Oa. The congregation of Kildalton and Oa Church of Scotland sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of South Argyll. |
