The congregation of Roslin Free Church, which sat within the Presbyery of Dalkeith, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption when the minister, three elders, and 200 members of the quoad sacra parish of Roslin adhered to the Free Church. For the first summer of the congregation's existence they met in the burial ground of their former church and use of a school was later granted. The first church of Roslin Free Church was erected in the garden of a house purchased by the congregation, and a new church was built and opened in 1881. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland in 1900, Roslin Free Church became Roslin United Free Church and upon the 1929 union between the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Roslin United Free was renamed Roslin St David's Church of Scotland. In 1933 Roslin's St David's was united with the congregation of Roslin St Andrew's, under the name of Roslin Church of Scotland. After the local union both churches were used until 1935 when the former St Andrew's church was converted for use as the church hall. In 1968 Roslin Church of Scotland established a link with the congregation of Glencorse and the linked charge sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Lothian. |
