The United Presbyterians (Antiburgher) congregation of Carnoustie was first established, within the Presbytery of Arbroath, in 1789 by 16 Secession members from Dumbarrow and 8 from Dundee. The first minister of the charge, Simon Sommerville, was ordained on the 9th November 1791. At the 1900 union of the United Presbyterians and the Free Church, Carnoustie Free Church became Carnoustie Erskine United Free and in 1932, shortly after the union between the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, the congregation was dissolved. |
