In 1843, at the time of the Disruption, the minister of the united parish of Dunoon and Kilmun, which sat within the Presbytery of Dunoon, adhered to the Free Church and in 1844 the two charges were separated, establishing the distinct congregations of Dunoon Free Church and Kilmun Free Church. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland in 1900, Kilmun Free Church became Kilmun United Free Church and in 1921 the former 'Alliance' church at Strone was taken over and services were conducted in both Kilmun and Strone Church each Sunday. Upon the 1929 union between the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Kilmun United Free was renamed Kilmun St Andrew's Church of Scotland, and in 1937 Kilmun St Andrew's established a union with the congregation of Strone and Ardentinny. After this local union the congregation continued under the name of Strone and Ardentinny Church of Scotland, and the former Kilmun St Andrew's church and manse were sold. In 1986 Strone and Ardentinny established a link with the charge of Kilmun St Munn's and this linked congregation sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Dunoon. |
