In 1780 the first minister of the Cabrach (Antiburgher) United Presbyterian congregation was ordained, however it is thought that the Antiburgher minister of Elgin and Moyness, Mr Troup, had preached here from as early as 1760, and the first church of the congregation is believed to have been built in 1772. A new church was later erected in 1874. At the 1900 union of the United Presbyterians and the Free Church, Cabrach Free Church became Cabrach United Free, and following the 1929 union between the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Cabrach United Free was renamed Cabrach Lower, Church of Scotland. In 1932 Cabrach Lower was joined with the congregation of Cabrach Upper, under the name of Cabrach, and after this local union both churches continued in use. Cabrach kirk session went on to form a link with Mortlach in 1967 and the two charges were later united in 1982, under the name of Cabrach and Mortlach. Cabrach United Presbyterian, United Free and Church of Scotland Kirk Session formerly sat within the Presbytery of Banff, later of Banff and Strathbogie, and then of Strathbogie. |
