In 1844 a second Free Church congregation was organised in Forfar under the name of Forfar East Free Church. Initially a missionary was appointed to the congregation and the charge was later sanctioned in 1850. The church was erected in 1851 and the manse 10 years thereafter in 1861. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland, Forfar East Free Church became Forfar East United Free Church and upon the 1929 union between the United Free Church of Scotland and the Church of Scotland the congregation became Forfar East Church of Scotland. In 1977 a union was established between the congregation of Forfar East and Forfar Old to form the charge of Forfar East and Old Church of Scotland. This united congregation sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Angus. |
