The congregation of Aberdeen South Free Church, which sat within the Free Presbytery of Aberdeen, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption, when the minister and congregation of the South Parish Church adhered to the Free Church. A church was erected in 1843, which was later sold to Aberdeen East congregation in 1892 and a new church was built. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland in 1900, Aberdeen South Free Church became Aberdeen South United Free Church, and upon the 1929 union between the United Free Church of Scotland and the Free Church of Scotland, Aberdeen South United Free became Aberdeen South Church of Scotland. In 1973 a union was established between Aberdeen South and the congregation of Aberdeen East and Belmont, to form the session of Aberdeen St Mark's Church of Scotland. The congregation of Aberdeen Trinity was joined with St Mark's in 1981 and Aberdeen St Mark's Church of Scotland sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Aberdeen. |
