The congregation of Chapel of Garioch Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Garioch, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption, when the minister of the parish, and a number of his congregation, adhered to the Free Church. Difficulties were experienced when trying to secure a site upon which to build a meeting house and so church and manse were erected at Harlaw and in 1853 the congregation was transferred to a new location at Pitcaple. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Church of Scotland in 1900, Chapel of Garioch Free Church became Chapel of Garioch United Free Church and upon the 1929 union between the United Free Church of Scotland and the Church of Scotland, Chapel of Garioch United Free Church was renamed Chapel of Garioch North Church of Scotland. In 1941 Chapel of Garioch North was united with the congregation of Chapel of Garioch South, under the name of Chapel of Garioch Church of Scotland. After the local union the former North Church buildings ceased to be used. In 1982 a link was established with the congregation of Blairdaff. The linked congregation sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Gordon. |
