A Free Church Mission Station was formed in Torrance in 1869. Initially services were held in a small hall in a top floor flat, but after much fundraising a new hall was built, known locally as 'The Free Kirk Box', and the opening service was conducted by Rev D MacLeod, minister of Campsie Free Church. In 1900 the congregation passed to the United Free Church as Torrance United Free Church, and although still officially a mission at this point full status was granted in 1917. Following the union of the United Free Church and the Established Church in 1929, the charge became Torrance Church of Scotland. In 1983 Torrance Church of Scotland was linked with the congregation of Kirkintilloch Park, however this arrangement was later terminated in 1990. The congregation of Torrance Church of Scotland is under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Glasgow. |
