The congregation of Largs United Presbyterian Church first began as the Burgher Church of Largs in 1779, following the presentation of a petition to the Burgher Presbytery of Glasgow, requesting supply of Sermon within Largs. In 1781 the first church of the congregation was built, which was superceded in 1892, and William Watson, the first minister of Largs Burgher Church, was ordained in 1783. In 1847 Largs Burgher Church became part of the United Presbyterian Church. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland in 1900, Largs United Presbyterian was renamed Largs Clark Memorial United Free Church, and upon the 1929 union of the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, the charge became Largs Clark Memorial Church of Scotland. The congregation of Largs Clark Memorial Church of Scotland is under jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Ardrossan. |
