The congregation of Blackford Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Auchterarder, was established in 1843, the year of the Disruption, due to the efforts of Samuel Grant, minister of Ardoch. The church was built in 1844 and the charge was sanctioned in 1845. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland in 1900, Blackford Free Church became Blackford United Free Church. In April 1914 the church spire was struck by lightning and the church was partially destroyed by fire. Restoration work was completed by November 1914 and the church was reopened. Upon the 1929 union of the Free Church of Scotland and the United Presbyterian Church, Blackford United Free Church was renamed Blackford St Andrew's Church of Scotland. In 1950 Blackford St Andrew's was united with the congregation of Blackford Old, under the name of Blackford Church of Scotland. After the local union the former St Andrew's church was converted for use as the church hall. A link was established in 1984 with the congregation of Ardoch. Blackford Church of Scotland sits within the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Perth. |
