The congregation of Oyne Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Garioch, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption, when the minister and the majority of the congregation of Oyne Parish Church adhered to the Free Church. They were met with much disapproval and in the beginning the only accommodation available to them for worship was a cart shed. Temporary use of a barn at Kirktown of Oyne was later granted by Mr Alexander Gilmore and in 1848 a church and manse were erected on land which been donated by the sister of the local blacksmith. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Church of Scotland in 1900, Oyne Free Church became Oyne United Free Church and upon the union between the United Free Church of Scotland and the Church of Scotland, Oyne United Free was renamed Oyne West Church of Scotland. In 1940 Oyne Church of Scotland was joined with the congregation of Oyne St Ninian's, under the name of Oyne Church of Scotland. After this local union the former West Church continued in use as the place of worship for the united charge. Oyne was later linked in 1964 with Rayne however this arrangement was terminated in 1973 in favour of a linking arrangement with the congregation of Leslie-Premnay. Ten years later in 1983 the united congregation of Inch-Leslie-Premnay-Oyne was formed when the named charges were joined together. Inch-Leslie-Premnay-Oyne sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Gordon. |
