The Edinburgh Original Burghers, who met in Skinners Close (and later South Gray's Close) from 1801, joined the Church of Scotland in 1839 and became known as Henderson Church. At the time of the disruption in 1843 the congregation of Henderson Church of Scotland adhered to the Free Church, and along with additional members who joined them from Roxburgh Terrace and Leith Wynd Chapel, formed the Free Church congregation of Henderson. The name was later changed in 1848 to Edinburgh Tron Free Church. Additionally in 1848 the old Commercial Bank buildings in High Street were bought and adapted for church purposes, and the congregation remained here until 1875 when the High Street building was sold and a new church was erected in Chambers Street. A number of years later in 1899 another move took place when the congregation was transported to buildings in Suffolk Street. After this move the charge adopted the name of Craigmillar Park Free Church. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland in 1900, Craigmillar Park Free Church became Craigmillar Park United Free Church and upon the 1929 union of the United Free Church of Scotland and the Church of Scotland, Craigmillar Park United Free Church became Craigmillar Park Church of Scotland. In 1966 a union was established with the congregation of Mayfield South. After this local union the charge remained under the name of Craigmillar Park and under the ministry of Rev I. Macttagart, minister at Craigmillar Park. Edinburgh Craigmillar Park Church of Scotland sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Edinburgh. |
