The congregation of Dunscore Free Church, which sat within the Free Presbytery of Dumfries, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption when Dr Brydon, the minister of Dunscore Parish Church, and the majority of his congregation, adhered to the Free Church. The church was erected in the following year and the building was later renovated in 1899. Following the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland in 1900, Dunscore Free Church was renamed Dunscore East United Free Church and in 1918 a union was established with the former United Presbyterian Church congregation of Dunscore Renwick United Free, to form the session of Dunscore United Free Church. Upon the 1929 union between the United Free Church of Scotland and the Free Church of Scotland, Dunscore United Free became Dunscore East Church of Scotland and Dunscore East was joined in 1940 with the congregation of Dunscore Old, under the name of Dunscore Church of Scotland. Both churches remained in use following this local union and a link was later established in 1977 with the charge of Glencairn and Moniaive. The congregation of Dunscore Church of Scotland sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Dumfries and Kirkcudbright |
