The congregation of Bervie Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Fordoun and later of Brechin and Fordoun, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption and the charge was sanctioned in the following year. Worship took place within temporary accommodation until a church to house the congregation was opened in 1844. The church was later rebuilt in 1893. In 1900, at the time of the union between the Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Bervie Free Church became Bervie United Free Church and at the 1929 union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Bervie United Free was renamed Bervie East, Church of Scotland. In 1944 Bervie East was joined with the congregation of Bervie Old, under the name of Bervie, and after the local union the former Bervie United Free manse was sold and the church was converted for use as a church hall. |
