The congregation of Bathgate Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Linlithgow, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption, when Samuel Martin, minister of Bathgate Parish Church, and a number of his congregation, adhered to the Free Church. A church was erected soon after and the manse was built in 1844. In 1900, upon the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church of Scotland, Bathgate Free Church was renamed Bathgate St David's United Free Church, and the charge was moved to sit within the United Free Church Presbytery of Bathgate. The old church was later demolished to make way for a new and more commodious building, which was opened in 1906. Following the 1929 union of the United Free Church of Scotland and the Church of Scotland, Bathgate St David's United Free Church became Bathgate St David's Church of Scotland. The congregation of Bathgate St David's Church of Scotland sits within the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of West Lothian. (dissolved 30 September 2007) |
