The congregation of Swinton Free Church, which sat under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Duns and Chirnside, was organised immediately after the Disruption in 1843. A church and manse were built in that year however the church was later superseded in 1860 when a new church was erected. In 1900, upon of union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Swinton Free Church became Swinton United Free Church and following the 1929 union between the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Swinton United Free was renamed Swinton West Church of Scotland. Three years later in 1932 Swinton West was joined with the congregation of Swinton Auld Kirk and after this local union the former West manse was sold and the West Church became the church hall. |
