The congregation of Livingston Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Linlithgow, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption when John Laing the minister of Livingston Parish Church, and a number of his congregation adhered to the Free Church. A church was built in Livingston to house the charge however after Mr Laing's resignation in 1847, the congregation was left financially unable to call a replacement minister. In 1851, following a failed attempt to unite Livingston with the Free Church congregation at West Calder, a second minister was ordained and the old church was rebuilt on the same site and reopened in 1858. In 1900, upon the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Livingston United Free became Livingston United Free Church and the charge was transferred to the United Free Presbytery of Bathgate. Following the 1929 union between the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Livingston United Free was renamed Livingston Tulloch Church of Scotland and a number of years thereafter in 1945, Livingston Tulloch was united with the congregation of Livingston West. After the local union, under the name of Livingston Church of Scotland, the former Tulloch church and manse were sold. |
