In 1843 at the time of the Disruption, John Campbell, the minister of Petty Parish Church, adhered to the Free Church, however he left the area shortly afterwards leaving Petty without a Free Church charge. In 1848 , after some setbacks, a site was secured within Petty upon which a church and manse were built to house the congregation of Petty Free Church, and in 1851 a new minister was ordained. In 1900, upon the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Petty Free Church became Petty United Free and following the 1929 union between the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, the charge was renamed Petty East Church of Scotland. A number of years thereafter in 1934 Petty East was joined with the congregation of Petty West, under the name of Petty Church of Scotland. The congregation sat within the Free and the United Free Presbytery of Inverness. |
