It is not clear exactly when the Dalkeith King's Park Relief congregation was established, but the first church was erected in 1768, and the first minister of the charge was ordained in 1770. In 1850 the charge became part of the United Presbyterian Church and was commonly known as Dalkeith West United Presbyterian Church. A new church was built in 1870 and the congregation reverted to the name of Dalkeith, King's Park United Presbyterian Church. In 1900, upon the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, the charge became Dalkeith King's Park United Free Church and in 1912 Dalkeith King's Park United Free was united with the congregation of Dalkeith St John's United Free, to form the session of Dalkeith St John's and King's Park. Following the 1929 union between the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Dalkeith St John's and King's Park United Free became Dalkeith St John's and King's Park Church of Scotland. The congregation of Dalkeith St John's and King's Park sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Lothian. |
