The congregation of Carnoustie St Stephen's Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Arbroath, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption when the minister, and a large majority of the congregation of the quoad sacra church of Carnoustie, adhered to the Free Church. The congregation retained the church for worship until 1850, when a new building was erected. In 1900, upon the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Carnoustie St Stephen's Free Church became Carnoustie St Stephen's United Free Church and following the 1929 union between the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Carnoustie St Stephen's United Free became Carnoustie St Stephen's Church of Scotland. A number of years thereafter in 1969, Carnoustie St Stephen's was joined with the congregation of Carnoustie Old, under the name of Carnoustie Church of Scotland. The congregation of Carnoustie Church of Scotland sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Angus. |
