The congregation of Braemar Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Kincardine O'Neil, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption, when the minister and a number of the congregation of Braemar Parish Church adhered to the Free Church. Worship initially took place in the Fife Arms Hotel and also in a stable, until a wooden church was erected to house the congregation. A stone church was later opened in 1845, which was superseded in 1870 and became a mission hall, the old wooden church was converted to serve as a school house. In 1900, upon the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Braemar Free Church became Braemar United Free Church and in 1946, following the 1929 union between the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Braemar United Free joined with Braemar Parish Church and became Braemar Church of Scotland. |
