Ayr Original Secession, or Robertson Memorial Church originated as a Secession congregation in the town which was formed by 1755, but initially in conjunction with another such congregation in Kilmaurs, from which it was not disjoined until fifteen years later. Its first church building dated from 1770. In 1843 John Robertson, formerly a minister in Edinburgh, accepted a call to Ayr. He and a majority of his congregation refused to adhere to the union of most of the Original Seceders with the Free Church in 1852, and remained part of the United Original Secession Church. |
