The congregation of Pluscarden Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Elgin, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption, when the minister of Pluscarden chapel-of-ease, and the majority of his congregation, adhered to the Free Church. Prior to 1843 the congregation had worshipped in part of the old priory of Pluscarden, and the Free Church charge continued to do so until 1897 when the priory was sold to the Marquis of Bute. A new church to house Pluscarden Free Church was consequently erected at this time. In 1900, upon the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Pluscarden Free Church became Pluscarden United Free Church and following the 1929 union between the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland Pluscarden United Free, became Pluscarden Church of Scotland. In 1972 Pluscarden was linked with the charge of Birnie and sits under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Moray. |
